Swansea student - Williams’ supporter of the day

As Kirsty Williams’ continues her campaign to become leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, she will tonight meet with lib dem Swansea Students.

Lisa Stephens (Swansea University politics student) is supporting Kirsty…

“Kirsty is an extremely approachable person, a quality that is important in any leader. I believe that the Welsh Liberal Democrat Party is in need of a leader with this quality in order to reach out to new generations of voters. She takes her time to get to know people, and this is one of the reasons why I will be voting for Kirsty.”

Mae Lisa Stephens (myfyriwr gwleidyddiaeth o Brifysgol Abertawe) yn cefnogi Kirsty…

“Mae Kirsty yn rhywun mae’n hawdd iawn agosáu ati, rhinwedd sy’n bwysig mewn unrhyw arweinydd. Credaf fod angen arweinydd gyda’r rhinwedd hwn ar Blaid Democratiaid Rhyddfyrdol Cymru er mwyn denu cenedlaethau newydd o bleidleiswyr. Mae’n rhoi amser i ddod i nabod pobl, a dyma un o’r rhesymau y byddaf yn pleidleisio dros Kirsty.”

A blog from Kirsty about the manifesto….

In 1999, 2003 and 2007 we returned six AM’s to the assembly. That simply isn’t good enough - small can sometimes be beautiful, but in this case I’d rather there were a few more of us. Over the last three assembly elections I am the only AM who has increased their share of the vote. I want to bring this sustained growth to other areas of our party,

Our party must change. We must be far more ambitious - for ourselves as a party and for our country. Wales needs a Welsh Liberal Democrat party with a zeal and commitment to radical reform, able to speak for all parts of the country.

Proposals - for the party and policy - include:

· Creating a Leader’s Forum – improving members’ links with the leader
· An Ideas Academy for liberalism in Wales
· Targeting Assembly constituencies, rather than complicated regional vote strategies
· Ensuring no child leaves school without basic literacy and numeracy skills and an entitlement to adult learning and training
· A Citizen’s Rights Charter for Wales

Now is the time for action. As a party we must look outward, not inward. I will lead from the front, with energy, passion and commitment to raise the bar for the party and for Wales.

I believe we can and should be optimistic about our party’s future. There are great prospects in Swansea West, Pontypridd and Newport East, but there’s so much more than that. There are no no-go areas for me. I can take our message to all parts of Wales.

Over the years, I’ve met members and supported campaigns across the whole of Wales. I’m really proud to have received nominations from people from every local party. I am committed to being a leader for the whole of Wales.
