John Mundy, Field Organizer in Pennsylvania for Obama’s Campaign For Change said:

“I will be 100% behind you as the candidate who, like Senator Obama, represents reform in every aspect of your life. I have seen the work you do and it is an inspiration to us all.”

Notes to the Editor

“Dwi’n cefnogi ti 100% fel yr ymgeisydd sydd, fel Seneddwr Obama, yn cynrychioli ddiwygiad ym mhob agwedd o dy fywyd.  ‘Dw’i wedi gweld y gwaith wyt ti’n gwneud ac mae o’n ysbrydolaeth i ni gyd.”

A blog from Kirsty about last night

This post is also availiable in welsh

Well what a night. I’ve spent the evening gripped to my seat delighted to see Barack Obama’s message of change and hope be embraced so comprehensively by Americans.

Barack and the Democrats have smashed ceiling after ceiling in this election campaign. We in Wales will be smashing our own ceiling in the next few weeks, electing the first female leader of any Welsh political party.

It’s not just that ceiling I want to see us smash though. As the world turns to a new generation of leaders with Barack in America and Tavish Scott and Nick Clegg in Scotland and the UK there should be no doubt about the opportunity we Welsh Liberal Democrats find ahead of us. I have a vision for us to succeed, raising the bar on our achievements in Wales, just like Barack Obama has done for the democrats in America. Being left behind should not be an option for the party or for the country.

Over the coming weeks I will continue to meet and campaign alongside members as I have for the last twenty years. I’m proud that I am the only Assembly Member who has increased their share of the vote every election. I want to spread that success elsewhere. You can find out more about what I believe and about me on my website at www.kirsty4leader.co.uk

We must make the party fit for the 21st Century by keeping our campaigning techniques up to date with new technology. We must evolve and improve our communication with each other and with the electorate. I want the party as a whole to rethink our policy and go beyond past assumptions to ensure that it is still relevant to our changing nation.

We need to make progress and win in areas that have not been represented by us at a national level before. But saying we want more is easy. We need a political strategy that challenges Labour in its heartlands, that exposes Plaid’s independence Agenda and the Tories failure to really embrace change.

The challenges we face are evident but so to is the determination of our membership. Our party will need ambition, determination and energy. I believe I can bring these attributes and this vision for the party and for Wales.

Williams welcomes Obama

Commenting on Senator Barack Obama’s victory in the US elections Kirsty Williams, candidate for the Welsh Lib Dem leadership said:

“This is a truly historic moment, not only for the US, but I believe, so too for the world.

“It has been an amazing night – with Barack’s message of change and hope embraced across America.

“I share his vision and I very much hope that we will see a sea change not only for the deprived in America but for the lost and forgotten around the world.  I look forward to seeing the withdrawal of troops from Iraq to end this wars of destruction and move towards peace and stability in the region.

”Barack is the change America needs and the change the world needs – I eagerly look forward to his first 100 days and beyond.”
